Freedom

As the sun slowly melted the ice cream in her hand, she stared in wonderment as he drove away in his van. There were no tearful words or unnecessary crying, he merely felt that it was time and he was tired of trying. For forty years she’d listened hard and done just as he said. Then suddenly, as he declared, she got ideas in her head. Ideas that women should have a life, a future of their own. Not all conventional forms of life involve a husband at home. She realized the sun had melted her ice cream away, and went inside to sort things out, tomorrow would be a great day!
