THE SCARS ON MARS

Caged
like animals
only me and you
pacing
hearts racing
unable to see beyond the bars
not even to gaze skyward to view Mars
or the moon
and we won't anytime soon
caged
and enraged
angry at a circumstance
unable to get up and dance
breath to breath on the dance floor
maddened by forevermore
robbed of romance
now to turn another page
in a cage
each in our little cubicle regretting the sorrow
and praying for the courage to face tomorrow
we once had a romance that couldn't not be gauged
caged
