Free Me Jesus

Free me Jesus
I can’t feel my legs
My hands are trembling

Free me Jesus
I just need a drink
And I’ll be ok

Free me Jesus
I can’t drink the wine
And take the bread

Free me Jesus
My wife loves me so
But she don’t understand

Free me Jesus
I swear I believe
But Jack Daniels is 80 proof

Free me Jesus
I love you so
But Budweiser goes down so slow

Free me Jesus
Coffee in hand
Cigarette to go

Free me Jesus
There’s no place to go
There’s no one to know

Free me Jesus
Just 12 steps from here
I stumble on the first
And fall on the second

Free me Jesus….

Wow, Stephen, I miss stopping by. I so love the inspiration dropped from the bottom of your heart. I've been stumbling these past few weeks.. a wonderful poem to share at any given moment... HUGS.. Linda

Awesome metaphor in this one. It seems stumbling is the inevitable condition we all face. The last verse with the 12 steps really nails it. ~K

Great poem. (: This reminded me of my brother. Alcoholism must be hard from all I have seen and heard. Personally, I stay away from it. This is a cool style and the refrains were very effective. :) Always, Laura
