Free, Free, At Last

He sat in the woods
Just wishing he could
Get rid of the pain
Hurt, and fear, as he should

If only he didn't have
To carry a heavy load
Do what he had
Many times been told
He wouldn't be sitting
Feeling his heart was cold

Remembered when he was young
Heard preachers say
Give your burden to God
They will roll away, today

He would just walk
Out of the church and say
Maybe I will
Some other day

Now he understood why
Life wasn't so fair
He did things he shouldn't
Because he just dared

He bowed his head
That day
Asked Christ in his heart
And to stay
All his burdens he carried
Along the way
Had finally
Been rolled away

He went home rejoicing
On his face, was a smile
Some people hadn't seen that
For quite awhile
