NO ISLAND IS A MAN
I mustn’t hear, I mustn’t fear
I mustn’t touch, I mustn’t clutch
I mustn’t feel, I mustn’t heal
I mustn’t talk, I mustn’t walk
I mustn’t see, I mustn’t be
Should I do all the things above
Should I do all the things I love
Should I be human with emotions
My tears could fill a hundred oceans
Should I hear my ears would bleed
Should I see I’d see of need
Should I feel I’d feel too much
And feel the thrill of a lover’s touch
Should I see I’d see the tears
The anguish in the face of pain
Should I feel I’d feel the fears
The fright of damnation and disdain
Should I touch I’d be touched too much
Should I hear I’d hear of death
Should I walk and talk and such
Sorrow might steal my blessed breath
I care not for despondency
I care not for sorrow’s soul
I care not to live joylessly
Nor hopelessly on the whole
Leave me deaf to humanity’s plea
Leave me blind to the moon and sun
Leave me numb lest I should flee
And be more discouraged than anyone
