Free Cee Left Alone By the Telephone
LEFT ALONE BY A TELEPHONE
I called you up on the phone today
But the operator said you moved away
You left me half past the month of May
And parting was too great a price to pay
I was greeted not by your cheery voice
After the buttons besieged me with sorrow
The start of May was a time to rejoice
But then came the middle of May’s tomorrow
I am now stranded and straddling sadness
In a world without my woman of yesterday
May was a month of maudlin madness
Thirty-one days that said you couldn’t stay
I awake now on a pillow I refuse to wash
Silk that still bears the stains of your lipstick
You were pert, pretty and oh so posh
But now I’m left lonely and oh so lovesick
I tried the number that used to be yours
But the operator said words I cared not to hear
You used to gladly do my errands and chores
and now that pillow is witness to my every tear
