Fragile hearts For many years romance blossomed covertly Robert was the man of Ami’s dreams. Sadly Ami's parents had promised her hand to Giurkiran and the arranged marriage was to take place in India. Ami rebelled against her parents wishes, she Loved Robert with all her heart so they Eloped and married in secret. Her parents immediately disowned her and Even when Ami eventually gave birth to Ajar their first grandchild, they refused to see them. Realisation finally dawned and day after day Ami’s Tears fell. Unable to cope with what she had done She died of a broken heart. 10~16~16 Contest Fragile hearts Sponsored by John Hamilton

Sadly, Jan, this happens all too often- we have an organisation that started in Derby called Karma Nirvana, I believe, that gave support and assistance to those being pressured into such marriages. Good write. Good luck. Viv x

I based the poem on when I was growing up in Derby - a friend of mine had an Asian girlfriend and they had to meet in secret - he worked in the family business in Normanton and that is where they had met:-) I must google see if I can trace him:-) hugs jan x

This happens yes, far too much. It also happens to gay people who are forced to get married by parents, and it makes both partners in any form of forced marriage unhappy. Just as being disowned is utterly devastating.....

I had a gay friend who got married simply to conform to his parents wishes but he and his wife had other partners so they were both happy in the end - the marriage was just one of convenience to appease his family:-( hugs jan xx

Thanks for confirming that Nette - so so sad to be forced to love someone you don't love. I've read of 'honour killings' where the girl is killed by relations as she has brought shame on the family:-( quite heartbreaking:-) hugs Jan xx

Love is God's great gift to Man and should be a personal matter. A tragic poem relating the story that many have been through in many parts of the world dear, Jan! Hope this is just a well-written fiction! Good luck my friend!

I suppose in some cultures they still have arranged marriages. Really never understood them but I guess it comes from living in a place where women have rights. It would be a difficult decision to choose between parents and husband/wife. Very sad story, Jan. Good luck:)

There are still arranged marriages - I've been told sometimes the bride meets her groom for the first time when she goes over for the wedding:-( let's hope her parents have made the right decision!:-( hugs Jan xx
