Fractured Storm

Fractured Storm Ghostly gloom born in brooding stillness Cut to smithereens with shards of energy Whirlwinds in feral fragments shrillness Warn of wild catastrophe. Blinding firebolts erupt to split serenity Nightfall dodges crackling outbursts released Platinum tempests burst electricity Splintered lights race on volatility increased. Sonic thunder bumpers, let go pent up booms Rip wide the transitory abyss Slams closed jagged air as thunder looms Solitude in ragged sound dismissed Smashed bits of broken midnight crumble Air’s torn edges reverberate in harrowing echoes Drumfire’s waves of serrated sound rumble Flashing thunderheads shriek in falsettos. Night watch sees siroccos spiral spin As raindrops on the dry earth sizzle Downpours splash in roaring torrents din Gales at rest – storm remnants sing thin whistles. 12-29-21 Contest: Weather Sponsor: Angela Tune N/A - 1-5-22 Contest: Your Second Chance 1st Sponsor: Sotto Poet Firebolts can be found in the Merriam- Webster Dictionary

I felt as if I have been witnessing the fury of nature with bated breath ! Last month we had a similar thunderstorm of the same magnitude you describe here. Your vocabulary is amazing and your descriptions, piercing as a sharp dagger. I dread thunderstorms even after growing up. Glad your poem got the placement it deserved. Congratulations dear friend.

Hi Valsa! I am so grateful for your visit. Thank you dear friend for your wonderful feedback. I so wanted to express the power of a summer thunder and lightning storm. Thank you for your affirming words! There is something about these tempestuous events that reach deeply into our most primal fears taking our breath away - making us shudder from a place deep within us in an ambivalent experience of both fear and wonder. Hope you don't have any more thunder storms this season! Blessings of calm winds and clear skies to you!

Hi Lasaad! Thank you so much for your generous placement - the opportunity to bring back this poem. I am deeply honored by the placement among so many wonderful poems! I have always loved watching a storm develop. Our youngest and I would sit mesmerized as a thunder and lightning storm would develop then pass. So grateful for your sponsorship of this contest and that you enjoyed this write. Sending you blessings on calm wings my friend!

Hi LJ! Thank you so much. I have learned so much about the power and crafting of words here on the soup! And, as much as I am mesmerized by an approaching storm watching it leave is as much a part of the experience as the storm itself. Sending you much joy for the new year and many blessings!

Superbly written lines in your poem, Sam. "Drumfire waves..." "storm remnants sing thin whistles" - strong mages of a tempestuous storm. Congratulations! Brian

Thank you so much Brian. Storms, for me, write their own unique images and poetry. Your message is so motivating and inspiring as you are a master of imagery. Many thanks! All the best!

Hi Janice! Happy New Year! Thank you so much for your "congrats." Agreed, nature can have a very rough side. I think for both of us, as poets, that rough side provides some wonderful images! Have always loved your imagery! Sending you blessings of gentleness and joy for the new year!

Thank you Craig - fellow storm watcher. I'm with you on liking storms. Watching a storm gather is an amazing experience. We had a fast moving storm with thunder and lightning on Christmas morning. Sending you all the best for the new year.

An apocalyptical storm personified Sam, so much going on here, had to read through a few times, wonderful imagery and a great name for the poem, nothing fractured about your writing skills, all the best in contest, cheers David
