Forgotten Memories

Where do memories that are forgotten go? It’s as if the events never even took place. She searches for clues about a life long passed, with confusion painted on her face. She is visited each day by a parade of strangers; never remembering any one of us. If you don’t recognize the people you lived with, how can you know who to love and trust? Once she was a loving mother, doting grandmother and faithful wife; now each day is a struggle for her and everyone else once part of her life. The memories were supposed to be her comfort; those she cherished enough to save. It is sad to realize they are now long gone and won’t accompany her to the grave.

Dear Joe - How poignantly you write of the lost ones to dementia and Alzheimer's. How cruel the hands of time can be to lose someone before they are physically gone. Beautifully you write and capture the heartache for all. love, Kathy

This is a beautiful tribute to the memories left by those who are dear to us and who have passed on. I'm fairly new on this site. I know when poems sound good to me so I'm not a purist for form and textbook correctness. Most of my poetry will not be perfect in form. It took only one read from your portfolio and I liked what I heard (read). I will drop by occasionally and do not expect to be disappointed.... Thanks for sharing you talent...... Jake

Joe; this is sad, but it happens. it is taken harder by the family, because they see what is going on. The memories stay with the family. I am a great believer of memories. When you are poor and don't have anything to leave your family - then go out and make some memories, with your family. that's what they will keep after the love ones are gone. Many blessings. lucilla
