Forever Slipped Away

I watched love cross a bridge, never to return;
yet lamented its loss the moment it did.
Fate set that bridge on fire, and I let it burn
as I cried inside, though those tears quickly hid.
What was meant to last forever slipped away
and left me haunting memories of that day.
I learned happiness is fickle and fleeting;
when the one you trust the most gets caught cheating.
