For Oscar On His 2nd Birthday
Out of the mouths of babes echoes “Car!Car!”
and points he the bended finger waving.
In my close held orbit his rising star
shines in playful hugs and smooches craving!
Wise an old head on little shoulders sit,
that dear likeness of face, that heart of song,
the torch of wonder in a child’s mind lit -
I see it all and know that you belong.
Your first smile, first kiss, first coos outgrowing
ables me in my past life rearranged -
we are now that bond which comes from knowing
how you were begotten and I was changed.
My darling boy two years a gentle soul
know that I your praises sing to the world.
