Notes About The Poem

Inspired by the 'Last Poem Contest,' whose deadline I missed

For My Very Last Poem

For my very last poem
I'd like you all to know
I used to live on wanderlust
  Though now it doesn't show

For my very last poem
  I'd like here to confess
That for too much of my too short life
  I didn't try my best

For my very last poem
I'd like to set the record straight
The guy who sometimes made you smile
Didn't always treat his family great

For my very last poem
  I'd like here to admit
I missed my share of deadlines
The final one ~ this 'last poem contest' is it

Yet for my very last poem
I still hope that you think
I'm the type of good-natured fellow
With whom you'd like to have a drink

G'day Gershon ... I hope your very last poem is a very long time from now. Missing deadlines is a curse you quickly get over - thanks Gershon - Lindsay

I've just missed another deadline on Constance's haiku/senryu contest, by falling asleep before 11:30 p.m. last night... But I guess these are not real deadlines, as I'm still alive and kicking. Cheers, Gershon

Darlene, you are so nice to me. I thank you!... And I'm not leaving unless the Good Lord takes me away. So, seeing as how my vital signs are all excellent, I should be around the Soup for a while. Thanks, Gershon

We've all done things that we regret, Gershon, and sometimes we can't make reparations. You are definitely a fella I'd like to have a drink with sometime. Sorry you missed the deadline; I'm sure this would have been a contest winner. Hugs, Carolyn

Here's to you, my friend. Jack Daniel's is my poison. Sounds like you have learned what this journey is in a nutshell -- be honest with self, realized in the Mirror of Truth. As I have often said, while my physical brain shrivels away: if I keep my sense of humor, I have kept the best one. Yours seems healthy and brilliantly active. Blessings!!

Joe, thanks for the great comments and commentary. And so true: Where would we be without a sense of humor, esp. that ability to step back and realize that we tend to take things just a bit -- which expands to bite and byte -- too seriously. Appreciate the support! Keep the Faith, Gershon

What would we do without you Gershon, you make us laugh, you make us think, you make us cry, you make us glad, you make us sad, but mostly we know you are here among us. Blessing and hugs, Jennifer.

Absolutely, I'd be delighted to finally meet the real you! -- Although the bar would be in a real home, if you don't mind, my friend. ~ Not exactly the bar-goer here (lol).

Deadlines will come and go ... Let us then in stillness slow ... Joyous in the now, guilt forgo ... As for the drink, until we meet ... Let the melody in our heart be lively & sweet

Nice of you to visit my site, and with such a poetic tour-de-force of a comment --- much more elegant than the pedestrian poem of mine you commented on! Thank you for the verse! Best wishes, Gershon
