For Kay
Kay was simple
in the simplest of terms
Face always the same we'd learn
Pretty with those pretty eye's
I would have married
without surprise.
She put desire inside her smile
with the look that lasted
and comforted a while
I can only imagine
as love imagines that mile
What I would have had
with that face, that smile
The childhood dream
she would be to the degree
one of the pretty faces
attractive to me
and had not I concerns
elsewhere
the single mind
to put her there
But yet to Heaven
I say this prayer.
I would have loved you
had I'd been there
I would have kept you
and given the care
I would have died
had that been the cost
nothing would have been the price
for your loss
