For John
If only this message could make it to heaven.
All the things I would say,
pour out my heart,
truly talk to my friend.
I would speak of good times,
to hear your silly laugh.
As I forever wait for your reply.
If only, if only
All that’s left are the memories past.
Now you are a greater being,
you could no longer roam the earth,
and as you ascended into heaven,
you gave each of us a piece of you
to keep in our hearts.
I smile knowing you are sharing stories with God,
and lifting the spirits of the angels.
If only this message could make it to heaven.
It would float on my tears
And fly on sorrow’s wings
to reach the familiar destination of your heart.
If only, if only this message would make it to heaven
My brother, my friend,
Hear my heart.
We love you.
We miss you.
