For Democracy and Decency
I’m sorry but I can’t pretend or meditate it away
Watching Americans becoming predators after human prey
I think of all the police now at home bruised and broken
Who fought for so many lives without the respect of so many unspoken
Then at the dog park, two women demanded people take off their masks
When people refused they opened the fence and they did not ask
Then all the dogs went running from the park during all this strife
And a woman pricked someone who wore a mask with a knife
So people ran to gather their beloved dogs and went running for their liife
Something is very wrong now in our towns in our streets
We must fight for democracy and decency we must not give up in defeat.
