For Boys In Coats of Fear
FOR BOYS IN COATS OF FEAR
Father caused me the scar of broken voice
And now…
Healing is difficult.
This is what the Scripture says:
‘You will find love everywhere you go’
But somewhere under your roof
Your shadow was burning loud
And silence was making fool of you
So you left for the other room.
Your foot was trampling on cold mines
And you felt death down your spine
You heard mother speak in tongues
A proof that she has gone to war
You hated the walls, and loved the door
You found your ways a-way from home.
Somewhere in the market
You threw a stone
And that broke a neighbour’s skull
Father called you a bastard
He said he never knew God made errors
Until he found you.
You cried-
and swam into a man.
Now
Your heart beats so slow
Like the weak rhythms of blues
You look into the mirror
And find a thousand and one flaws
Yes! He is never a perfect God.
You have failed
But your eyes are deserts
Because no one ever believed in you
A girl comes to you in gold
You feel your heart skip a beat
But people like you don’t love.
You are never alone
For I do have a scar too
We are boys in coats of fear
Together, let’s find healing!
