For a Special Ed Teacher

For A Special Ed Teacher There is a special place of just one shelf Where gifts from all the kids I taught reside The toys with meanings only for myself But meanings none-the-less I keep with pride. It’s Christmas and I add another toy A plastic Bear about two inches tall A special gift loved only by a boy Who gleams with joy when showing it to all. It’s now beside a Santa in a cart Collecting dust against the basement wall It holds the magic of that young boy’s heart Who learned to talk that year surprising all. Another year of gifts has come and gone Another year of memories live on.

This is such a meaningful poem for so many reasons, The gifts you gave each day dwarfs the gifts of many in a lifetime. Your closet must be stuffed with memories of past gifts gave. Thanks for this poem and thanks for your lifetime of giving.

As the Mother of a special needs young man who attended special classes throughout school, I was drawn to your poem and loved its sweetness. I am so glad for the toys that remind you of all who needed you and are all the better for your life choices. This moved me and I can't help but thank you, for your career and your poem ... CayCay

Thanks for the visit and kind comment. Actually my wife was the teacher (she retired last year). The story is true and we still have the 2" bear!

This made me smile a special smile. Because of all sorts of reasons I learned to speak very late and I will never speak with ease. What a beautiful poem and a special memory!
