For a Second

It’s been a minute, Been thinking about you, The last time I saw you, The last time I got to hold you in my arms, I can still feel your touch, Soft and tender, unending... Dancing under the stars, nothing else mattered, For a second, it was just us… For a second, the world stopped spinning, For a second, a fire lit inside of me, It burned, unquenchable... It burned, all-consuming… It burned, Our lips then parted, our hold released, The fire inside, snuffed, For a second, it was just us, And yet I remain, trapped within that second, The clock’s hand will not yield, For it yet searches inside of me, For the last embers, deep within, It will not yield, it will not… I will not fight it, I will not resist, The fire must return, Unquenchable and unrelenting, It will not die.
