Footprints In Time

Walking on white
Powder soft sand
My footprints
Left impressions,
Little signs
Indicating my presence
In the recent past.

As I returned later,
I paused
And struggled to find
Signs of any footprints
As the incoming waves
Advanced,
Slowly, but surely
Erasing the memory
Of my presence…

Walking through life
What impressions do I leave?
What memories
Shall last longest?
Time moves on
Progressing inevitably
Towards that day when,
My last footprint
Shall disappear
Only for other footprints
To take my place.
