Fool By the Pool

Sept. 15, 1999, Hurricane Floyd bearing down on Long Island Just the day for my father and I to head to Montauk For a mini-vacation on a beachside resort Only thing between us and an angry ocean A pool in the beach-side court Entire town deserted Chickens! Let it come! We're ready for that, And then some! Fools on the beach Sanity out of reach Waiting for the flood to arrive We'll see if tomorrow we're alive! Fools on the beach Grey skies, Growing waves, Is this the excitment, Our soul craves? Madness, the fools in the storm, Staring at the swelling ocean waves Like this was the norm Fools on the beach Downright sad were we when the storm passed us by So we never got to see That tidal surge, Last sight for fools Fools on the beach Devoid of mental tools.
