Floating

Floating listless as the froth
on waves of burnished steel
Arms stretched out to circle the earth
and clasp their hands again
Light like a revolution sparks
the water off her hair
Buoyant as salt on a summer's day
breath of misting sea
Fish don't stop to investigate
Birds fly on as well
Ships force waves below her back
a sweet, imperceptible swell
Eyes playing out a shadow dance
on blue veined lids as screens
Brine full of life in drops on her lips
dry them to a dull chalky sheen
Clinking of shells declare their tune
rolling past sands of currents
She hears them like her heart beat's harmony
Bubbles rise under her hands
She thinks that she could die this moment,
this second, this instant, and all would be right
as the ocean below her, absorbs her, does know her
she'd slip without force, without fight...
