Flirtation

The bat of an eyelash,
easy laughter,
a cheshire cat smile
a moment of holding his eyes
across the room.
Anticipation abounds.

Break his heart
in the same moment by looking away
never to return the glance.
Scornful.

Empty promises
like the ones
uttered on your liquor-laced breath
have led me to believe that there is no such thing
as true love.

Only I believed you.
Foolish.
