Flightless

Suppressed, enclosed
Desperate to escape
Frantic wings beating
Against the cage, constraining
Heartbeat wild
The knowledge too overwhelming
Trust misplaced
And now you'll pay
With everything close
And dear to your heart
Wings that are clipped
Broken and useless
Hopes of flying just dreams
Dreams of freedom fading
Seeming so far away
The struggle is pointless
Yet persistence is key
The only thing keeping
Your mind from the truth
Cause there is one
Who could set you free
And you've just seen
The one
Walking away
