Flames of Pain
Under the smoke and flames,
The fire roars its stoked embers
As it rages, it's flames to the pain.
I see flames through the smoke,
Breathing down on me, such a heat
To touch my skin, the burn it will leave
I couldn't move, frozen, with nothing left to see.
I heard myself calling for me,
Calling out my name
My eyes didn't blink
Not for one moment
As it brought these flames of pain.
I rolled to my right,
Off my bed, onto the floor, I went
I started crawling for the door
My front door was my scent.
Bugsby, my cat, was in the room,
As I hollered out her name
The faint cry, she whines back to me
I swore she was right there behind, shame.
R.I.P. Bugsby, I'll miss you, always!
