Flags

Just pieces of cloth world recognition
Individually designed, national symbol,
Identity inscribed fibres of inspiration
Connected to poles a wooden handle,

Just a piece of cloth that tells a story
of power, religion, strength, devotion,
Signifying people's beliefs life's directory
saints, politics, unions, people's revolution,

Just pieces of cloth of many colours
emblems, stripes, crosses, spots, stars,
Respected giving identity like no others,
hanging from homes, buildings, cars,

Just pieces of cloth we call a flag
we fly these standards waving high,
our heritage our past not just a rag,
Protecting them we live or willing to die

Roy you have expressed so well our feelings of pride and love for our flag and what it represents for each of us. We have had an American flag hanging from the front of our house since we moved in. My husband is a vet and feels that it honors other vets as I do. A great poem! 7 ; )
