Five New Poems, Part Three
STAR TREK
I made a trek, to meet the stars
To split the galaxy
To prove the heart
And cure the mind
Of curiosity
To learn the ways of different folks
Who by their will and worth
Exceed the bounds of gravity
To break the chains
Of earth
I made a trek, to meet the heart
The galaxy inside
The great expanse
Of flesh and blood
And dreams that we abide
The monsters that I fear the most
Are deep inside of me
The selfishness
And pettiness
That never lets me be
The star trek to the mind of man
Is worth the price I pay
To do my best
And fill the quest
Of living day by day.
THE SIMPLE LIFE
The simple life is what I crave
To ease my troubled mind
To change the way that I behave
And put it all behind
To lose in me, duplicity
For sanctity is nice
The real me, authentically
Is worth a higher price
To plant some flowers in the ground
And watch them as they grow
To grow some roots, by what I found
That sprouted long ago
To pick the fruit, that only grows
Where grapes are on the vine
To fill my glass, that overflows
But never taste the wine
To live my life, with happiness
Without the pain and strife
To live it more, by doing less
Within a simple life.
I hope these poems, are good enough
To read beside your bed
I do not know them well at all
For how they left my head.
