Five Minutes Till Midnight
Two minutes closer to the midnight hour
They say the Doomsday clock has moved,
And the swiftly moving second hand is ticking
Like it has nothing left to lose.
Nuclear proliferation is the issue at hand
And it’s certainly cause for concern,
When you imagine that one day soon
The entire earth could burn.
For five decades scientists have sought
To build bigger and better bombs,
They say they need them to keep us safe,
This reasoning seems convoluted and wrong.
But I’m afraid it’s too late to complain about it now
As there are so many nukes that it makes me gasp,
I just pray to God that in the morning when I wake
It’s the sun that I see, and not a nuclear blast.
