This is a glorious write my friend! I wonder which Spaniard it was you were writing about? I can't think tonight, I'm brain dead it seems, ha ha! I surely loved reading this enlightening poem here this evening! Too bad about the Spaniard and his wife, in their fame they shouldn't die early in their life (being gored and overdosing)! Great Work!!

Sad...and yet lovely tanka Andrea. I had worked out some of the references in the poem, but thanks to your footnote it became so very clear , and even sadder. // paul

I took a picture of this beautiful couple riding horseback at the feria in Seville. It was 1974. Years later, teaching ESL after 2004, a Spanish student saw my pictures of spain and exclaimed that she knew who that bullfighter was with his new wife. they had just gotten married when I took their picture. About ten years later they were divorced and he was gored from behind by a bull and killed. She later remarried and killed herself with pills much later in life.

Freaky and tragic. What are the chances of finding that out! A sad tale in 5 short lines. Rob
