First Tears First Pain

It was a day when I was a bit younger I saw tears in my dads eyes Never seeing my dad this way before I asked him why the disguise? He said "I'm going to have an operation" "And I'm not sure I am going to make it" But me being the foolish one that I was Said "Oh come on dad,I know you can take it" That day came, everything was going fine So I figured that all went well But then that's when that telephone rang And it blew me all to hell It was my mom on the other line Her voice all crackling, and in tears I then asked her what was wrong? Because I hadn't heard her that way in years She said "Daddy's dead, he's gone" "He didn't make it through the operation" I said "What?" of course in instant shock It was that second in life,I had no preperation Suddenly my mind began to race For the very first time,my eyes started filling with tears This was the first day I started to feel a pain in my heart That I have now carried with me through all my years Contest:Any Emotional Poem Dan Kearley 8-24-11

Congrats on your win with this touching write. You have truly touched my heart with your honest sharing. I, too, thought my dad would make it. Looking back, I realize I was in denial about his health. God bless you, Dan, and thanks for sharing this poem again. Rhonda

WoW! My heart really goes out to you with this. We all grow up thinking our parents are immortal and will live forever. It's such a shock to find out they are not. God Bless My Friend. JB

Dan, a beautiful poem and one of true honesty. Many times people have a premonition that they will die and it is human nature to not want to accept that anything that terrible could happen. Take care and love the memories, you can now let the pain go. Your poem says it all. Lee
