First Swim In Spring

first swim in spring water black deep as the end of the world. scent of cedar roots ancient tangles that hold the rocks together. pines bent before the wind old crones thin and wrinkled. I wade into the lake submerge feel cold crisp life crackle through me. cleave the silken sheen, strike out for the far shore. slow delicious strokes; left arm raised, dig in flow past my body lift right raise dig in water sings in my ears like lilting ripples of glass chimes. roll float a specklespark sky umbrellas over me the big dipper venus shine we float together loons sing love dirges sad and sweet somewhere a beaver tail slaps a warning into the northern night.

Another highly descriptive and quality poem from your extremely capable pen, Patricia; I, personally, put it on the same level as your "stormbearers" poem -- it really is that good! Loved every verse! Especially the last one with its references to the Loons and Beaver; the Scots call them Loons, us English refer to them as Divers. An enjoyable and informative read once again, Patricia. :) john

John the silence suddenly broken by the loons and then the beaver is so magical my words hardly do it justice. It is truly visceral. I am so glad you enjoy them All my life I have surrounded b such heartbreaking beauty I want to share it. Let others know what nature does for us.

I want to dive into your words Patricia. I read your two previous posts last night wishing I had you in book form, dog eared and feathered spine.

Come and dive into my bay a lot softer than words. I know what you mean there are poems I feel the same way about. Thank you.
