First Snow

As the heavy flakes now fall from the morning sky
The barren trees grab what they can, clinging to new down
Now with white shadowy limbs, reaching, almost stretching
The trees give thanks to God and His new winter blanket

The sounds of children that lamented winter’s passing without a sign
Now gives in to laughter as frolicking becomes their new goal
The adults, they clean off their cars, with hopes of safe trips
Still find time to admire the beauty that now surrounds

And I, I sit looking through this window, dreaming of the day
Where for just a moment I can be a child again
Laughing, playing, snow angels and sleigh riding
Not thinking of what lies beyond the beauty of the snow
