Notes About The Poem

For the 'How my first poem was born' Poetry Contest, Sponsored by Jcb Brul

First Close Encounter

Out alone at last
Seven, and rapt in lush green
Seeds of verse were sown
Yellow butterflies, hued blooms
On our new street of fireflies

So is this how you found your poetic talent Evelyn. I your description so aptly artfully composed in your Tanka. I too loved the butterflies and fireflies (which I called fairies) back at that age. Hugs Maria

Thank you so much, Andrea. Yes, I was seven years old, and I had learned to dress myself, and had just been allowed to go out alone. Our old street had been lined with apartment buildings, and very little greenery. :)
