Fire Down Below

Black smoke rises into the air

Polluting, thick billowy clouds dissipate

There is a fire down below.

Burning eyes , lungs exploding

Oil hanging heavily, covering the surface with slug

There is a fire down below.

Thick, tarry, black , a floating death trap

Destruction floating on each crashing wave

There is a fire down below.

In the deep abyss of the sea

Gushing endlessly, destroying

There is a fire down below.

It needs to be extinquished

This black oil crude

To stop the fire from below.

You have captured the dreadfulness in this poem. God help us extinguish the fire from below. (In more ways than one...) By the way, Phyllis, I am going to try to start commenting again. I have just been too weepy these past three months…commenting became difficult. I do enjoy reading your wonderful poetry, though. And I appreciate you. Thanks for understanding. God be with you and keep up the excellent writing. Lovingly, Dane Ann

wow, what an amazing expression or depthful concern, for perhaps, the oil spill/spills or, possibly even the sometimes conditions of this world and life itself-very wonderful display of concern and heart! love, christopher :)

Greatest tragedy of my lifetime ... everyone keeps talking about all the folks who've lost their jobs but what species that now may be extinct ... My heart breaks ... I can't watch the news anymore!! Timely, poignant write here Phyllis with one little correction ... line #2 the word has an "a" instead of "i" in dissipate ... sorry, my spelling bug gets me in trouble sometimes ... smile ...

Great write that is a reminder of the situation that could turn worse that it already is most any minute..We as a country need to pray..If BP can't stop it, God could do something to plug the pipe..Sara
