Fire and Ice

Maybe to realize, we had to separate;
 ...watch each other walk away.
Complete opposites we seem to only agitate;
the distance growing day by day.

Now, no longer confined by fears
I look up searching for any light.
But the darkened sky stole my tears;
hid my pain from all other's sight.

I close my eyes and feel it comforting me.
Whispering the burdened secrets of eternity.
Reminding me "different" can be amazing; not always a mistake
At last I understood the beauty of our love; like embers and snowflakes

Somehow I endured today without you and gave prayer
that when again my eyes open I see you standing there

I love your image of embers and snowflakes. As agitating as our differences can be, they compliment one another and it's a beautiful thing.

"They" say opposites attract. Maybe there is commonality somewhere. I love your phrase "...like embers and snowflakes".

Like graphite and diamonds are made from the same carbon atoms people can be drawn to each other but their very makeup will preclude them from ever being able to appreciate the beauty that they each possess and rather than offering each other comfort and caring, one is volatile and burns out hot and quickly before it can reach a higher plain, while the other shines brilliantly but finds it difficult to change because it has already evolved into its finest form. A touching write.

Heart-touching piece, Flo, "embers and snowflakes" can never blend, maybe it's better for that relationship to end:)

Sometimes it seems that way. But I prefer to imagine a field of undying embers beneath a snow-filled sky creating a constant and undeniable state of beauty ;)

I don't know why I'm so behind. I've just been lost myself, what can I say. This is so powerful. Great write sorry I'm so late on the comment.

Aww such a soulful poem expressed in beautiful rhyming phrasings and dialogue. Ends with an appealing prayer. Kudos for this lovely touching poem on the common topic of broken heart and heartache, but written uniquely. Plz do read and comment my newest poem too.

Failed relationships can be the worst. It is always hard to keep a level head and try to see things from the other side because no one wants to admit they were wrong. Our first instinct is to recoil in pain, then lash out in defense. Powerful write Flo. Hoping all is well. hang in there, once a poet always a poet:)

such an emotional piece that sadly many can relate to , its so so sad when a relationship breaks down Flo but sometimes its better for a couple to split. I especially loved that third stanza and the embers and snowflakes , I'm so glad to see you posting:-) hugs jan xx
