Finding Me
Loving her has been a long journey.
Taking her to places high and low.
The darkest and brightest days.
Never wanting to look in the mirror
Fearing she will see all the bad in her.
Not wanting to examine the ugliness she felt.
Seeing the damaged parts of her and
Not wanting to let go of the perfection she once clung to.
The layers of guilt and shame that held her together.
The abuse her body, mind, and soul endured.
But one day, looking in the tiny mirror
Opening her eyes to who she really is.
Not the layers of skin or color or fat upon her.
It’s what’s inside her that people see.
The kindness and love she offers to those around her.
The projects she puts 100% of her time to.
The supportive and loving wife she is.
The doting and gentle mother she is.
The encouraging and compassionate friend she is.
There is so much more to her than her outward appearance.
She can look into the full mirror and love herself now.
No more seeing the broken girl inside.
She sees a woman of strength and confidence staring back at her.
It’s been a long voyage of learning and acceptance.
Finding me.
