Final Photo

he held her hand
and stole her heart
wished her well
when he had to go
his heart was aching
hers was breaking
they'd gone as far as they could go
the sky was blue, the day was black
rosy tinted when they look back

the final photo
when the camera clicked
captured an affair
deep and intense
a black and white
held in their minds
framed a shot of love that's blind

he held her hand
and stole her heart
wished her well
when he had to go

Things often appear "rosy tinted" when we look back, JB. And love affairs that begin "deep and intense" sometimes have no real foundation upon which to build. Emily Dickinson once wrote, "The higher the flame has leaped, the colder and deader the ashes." Our eyes soon open to see through a "love that's blind." Very nice writing! Love, Carolyn
