Fighting Pain

A kind of storm, inside my mind
can't tell from where it comes
Fighting off the aches and pains
that sometimes make me numb

Days go by without much thought
my mind, is somewhere else
But laying down to sleep at night
just magnifies the ouch

My mind just follows, nerves and veins
pathways to the hurt
Like winding roads, through hills and valleys
everything's overt

Throbbing, pulsating, so acute
the jolts have found their mark
Cannot dodge them, can't run away
can't hide here in the dark

Find a target, in my mind
focus hard, don't stray
Like meditation, see the light
help it go away

Time passes slowly, hours it seems
I do not notice when
Without a thought, pain fades away
I drift to sleep again...
