In pursuit of happiness, you follow
persuasive shadows tethered to the night.
And fall into a pit of depression,
plunged into darkness where there is no light.
Alluring smiles draw you into the dark,
where resistance is slowly stripped away.
And your innocence is stolen by lies,
introducing you to the games they play.
Your fragile heart is constantly breaking;
shattering into a thousand regrets.
But your pain's numbed by drugs and alcohol,
under whose tutelage your heart forgets.
Denial obscures your reality;
you can't see what is happening to you.
You don't understand why life seems empty;
and it's left you puzzled and feeling blue.
