Fear the Night

Lying here,
2:34-
sleepless night.

Totally aware, conscious of any motion stirring the air,
sensing the changes of the clock,
interpreting the noises of the night.

Wondering if sleep will come and
if it will be accompanied by the dreams,
the ones that disturb my slumber.

The ones that disturb my slumber,
making my heart race, my breathing unstable
my chest tight.

The ones that disturb my slumber,
making my eyes tear, my body ache.

The ones making me fear the night.
