Fear

Nightmares gently claw at my head in the early, pre-dawn hours…
Fear is hiding in the dark corners; where the shadows even cower…
It is fed and nurtured by my insecurities and self-doubt…
It’s kept in by paper chains and empty commands to not come out…
And despite my impotent efforts to keep my poor fear at bay,
with the help of friends, pain and regret, it escaped anyway…
