Fear
It hides in the dark;
lingers in the unknown.
Ignorance and imagination
are the foods on which it’s grown.
Paralyzing its victims,
right before it strikes;
Causing intelligent people
to do foolish things
when deeply it does bite.
It harbors no prejudice;
it will embrace almost everyone.
Those who say they never feel it -
are sometimes brave,
and sometimes dumb.
It’s inside of the old
and the young, just alike;
Around any corner
it could be lurking -
posing, ready to strike.
A loud noise;
A sudden movement;
Lets you know that it’s inside –
Tragic events
and unwanted outcomes
from which we cannot hide.
Some day you will face it –
some of us,
more than others;
It’ll make even the
strongest of men
cry again for their mothers.
Knowledge can tame it some;
Confidence, keep it down;
But don’t be fooled
into believing
it will never come around.
When it comes,
you can try
to look it in the eye;
But let’s be clear,
when it’s near
you will feel the FEAR.
