My dad and I weren't close, but we did see each other on a yearly basis. He seemed to be softening as he grew older.  I was beginning to think there might be a chance for us to salvage at least part of our relationship. Unfortunately, he passed away before that could happen. This is for him.

I seem to do everything wrong,
or else I just take too long.
I won't wear a dress
and my hair's always a mess.
I can't tell a joke
and yes, I still smoke.
Everything I do
is frowned on by you.
Now you've gone to heaven above;
I'll never be able to win your love.

Should we win their love? I have been blessed to have my Dad here. Mom passed away and I have gotten to know my dad. So sorry for your loss of both your dad and the potential for a closer relationship. I joked with my dad once, “I know I’m your favorite.” He said, “What makes you think so.” We get over our hurts and just love…pure sweet love. Hugs for you, Julia! Bring him to life in your poetry.
