Fated To Be With Me

Rena knew she was coming, long before I did.
She was pulling at my heart strings.
She was glinting in my eye.
She was whispering to me in my sleep.
Telling me of the love she'd keep...for me.

She was waiting to be born.
Far off in the starry sky.
Why she choose us, I'll never know.
Our love had long since died.

The love she brought overwhelmed me.
It was so nurturing and complete.
Communicating telepathically.
Then every day "I love you mammy."
As soon as she could speak.

While at my breast, she was giving more
than she ever took from me.
Comfort, warmth, peace and pleasure.
A bond so strong, to this day we
know we belong together.

She's twenty now and although I am no longer "cool".
And I have put them through the mill.
Leaving daddy for reasons they may never understand.
The cord between us will never break.
Make no mistake!

Your daughter is beautiful Jean! Every parent should love like this. I have this with both my daughters and they have blessed my life in so many ways. Now my granddaughter showers me with love. Your poem is such a beautiful tribute to Rena. Congratulations on your first place deserving win! #7 ; ) I began my comments from the bottom up and finally arrived at your poem early this morning. ; )

Thank you Connie. I am fortunate enough to only work part time since the eldest girl was born, 25 years ago. It means we had that extra time together when they needed me most. Now I use that spare time to kick up my heels.

This is such a touching poem Jean, thank you for entering the contest. I felt your words were 100% genuine and told a story, as well as explaining why u love her. A well deserved 1st place. Your poetic friend, Lewis.

Lewis, I'm humbly estatic!! I actually wrote this poem for her 16th birthday, reflecting back on her coming of age. It was one of the first poems I posted here and recieved no comments at the time. To go from that to first place is incredible. This poem came directly from my heart. The same place I thank you from now.
