Fast Flames

Sun beats 
     d
       o
          w
              n
                 hard on dry dirt.

Brown leaves
                         sn
                              ap.

A spark, 
     a flash, 
          a breath of hot wind.

Red teeth
                 b
                    i
                       t
                          e
                               the wood.

                                   the tall gum tree               
                               p   
                            u
                        p
                    a
                 e
               l
Flames 

Black smoke 
                     chokes 
                                 the pale blue sky.

Birds take 
Snakes 
            h

                d
                  e 
                     deep in the cool earth.

Flame s w e e p  the old brush.

Ash f

                s like grey snow.

Cold rain will come soon.
