Farewell My Love
She offered him a Lucky Strike
Twirling her lighter invitingly
And her Veronica Lake hairstyle
made her look fem fatale, dangerous
He fixed her with an appraising look
as she glanced down at the typewriter keys
Then stubbed out her lipstick smeared cigarette
into a large overflowing ashtray
He stepped forward to kiss her crimson cheek,
whispering he had found her gold earring
His pocket also revealed air ticket
Tears sprang to her eyes, knowingly she cried
Her English boyfriend had call-up papers
Back to Blighty and the cliffs of Dover
As she yielded to his pressing embrace
They kissed deeply, as though for the last time
