Far Away

I asked myself if I thought this was going to last, And I hadn't thought much about it in the past, But we weren't as close as we used to be, And lately, I haven't been very happy. So I decided to go my own way, And maybe our paths would cross again someday, But until then, I wanted to take it slow, And go wherever I wanted to go. Far away from him and this place, Far away from that look on his face, That said: "Come back, please, I can change." And looking back now, it seems so strange That he didn't know what he had until I was gone, Now that I'm far away and not turning off this road I'm on. I saw him on the street the other day, And I couldn't help but notice him look the other way. As if he was ashamed of who he was before, And too scared to reopen that door. As I walked by the place where we had our first date, I remembered how, in time, that place I grew to hate. And as I drove away that night, through the fresh fallen snow, I thought again about the day when I just wanted to go Far away from him and this place, Far away from that look on his face, That said: "Come back, please, I can change." And looking back now, it seems so strange That he didn't know what he had until I was gone, Now that I'm far away and not turning off this road I'm on.
