Famine of God's Word
FAMINE OF GOD’S WORD
A famine of the word of God? How could that ever be?
We have so many Bibles here in this land where we’re free.
But what if someone came along and closed our churches down
And silenced every pastor’s voice wherever they were found?
And what if they would threaten you to find a place to meet,
You had to hide somewhere, somehow, with just a few to greet?
Or, what if they would search your house, each Bible there to find,
Would you still have a lot of it there hidden in your mind?
God promised Israel long ago that He’d do such a thing
If they continued evil ways, their hearts not to Him bring.
He’d tried so many, many ways to get them just to see
HE was the one who led them out in this land now to be.
But they forsook Him for the gods they learned there in the land;
It was not God’s will then at all to follow in that plan.
Yes, we might like our freedom now and all of it we prize
But if we don’t APPLY that word from God so pure and wise,
He could decide as He did then to take it all away;
We’d have no church or pastor then to hear on that sad day.
God surely could send famine now---not of our food or drink,
But famine of the word of God much faster than we think!
So I say this to all of us as we live upon earth’s sod:
Let’s not live like we would deserve to lose the word of God!
based on thoughts from a sermon by my pastor
