False Smile

It's unbelievable
that she is my best friend
were close like sisters
yet were as different as night and day

I don't think she will fully understand
the pain that I fight on a daily basis
Sometimes I wonder if she's just
like everyone else

Does she really see the real me?
How could someone so sheltered
Understand someone who never had a shield
Doesn't she see the difference between us
and the huge gap that may never fill?

Even though I may say this
I know we are so much alike
Though we might not seem that way.
Our Friendship is so right as if it was destiny.

It's funny because our lives are never balanced
So I think in a way together we created happiness
It's weird to think two people so different
could understand each others predicament
as if they too were dealing with it

What I want she has
and what she's got I want
yet neither of us can see
or are able to comprehend
the pain that the other person feels
Until we walk a mile in their shoes

All we see is what they have
and never what is missing
We never see the hurt
Or do we purposely ignore it
to avoid getting involved in the
complications?

So many times we ignore the sadness
in a person's eyes even though their
wearing a smile so bright it would
appear as if nothing was wrong.

That's when they jump.
