Fallen Heroes
Fallen heroes never die
Their memories stay in heart and mind
When they are missed, fighting tears is hard
But never give little or no regard
How can one sleep at night
When awakened by terror or startled by fright
What could have changed the course of fate?
To have been taken instead, to the golden gate
For it is not what is lost, but for what is found
What is looking down from above, not up from underground
There will be ache and flashbacks, too
And the constant thought of ‘Me, not you!’
A continuous struggle of selfless notion
One would give all to get across that ocean
To bring 100 more back for the sake of the families
So they too had a hero return in Greens, Blues or ‘Cammies’
Alas, here we are, alone in the dark
As if a child and friend, moved far, far apart
Keep your friends close by and kept in the loop
May God bless the families and God bless the troops
