Fishermen sail in a wind-tossed boat;
A figure is seen walking out on the waves.
Is it a spirit? A ghost? But Peter has faith
That this is Jesus walking on Galilee.
He says the unthinkable, "If it is You, Lord,
Invite me to come." And he heard the Master call.
Slowly at first, his eyes on the teacher;
A man like you and me walked on a stormy sea.
Peter, however, looked at the roaring waves;
One moment was all it took for his faith to waver.
"Why have I done this?" he thought, and afterward
Every second dragged him downward, where he looked.
Remembering Jesus, he looked up and cried, "Save me!"
Feeling at once a powerful hand reach down to his own;
Up from the depths he was lifted by One who was there,
Listening all the while for a desperate, heartfelt cry;
Trying to show the quickly sinking fisherman how
He only had to look to Him in faith and seek His help
In any impossible circumstance, and He would be there.
Now Peter believes this, because they walked together back to the boat.
God and faith are more powerful than a fearsome storm or the laws of nature.
